Bec has been a vegan for nearly eight years now; she has always loved animals. She remembers her first childhood pet, Basil; a Burmese cat, and has a fond memory playing in the sandpit with him. Basil liked to steal socks and other random clothing items from the neighbours’ houses. She also remembers the first family dog, Thor- a Great Dane who used to howl every time the family sung ‘Happy Birthday to you’.
She has been active in the animal rights community for many years, and has attended a numerous vigils, rallies, and marches. She has tried street outreach, but found it too overwhelming so has decided to start a blog; a project that combines a love of both animals and writing.
In addition to her activism, Bec has volunteered for nearly ten years with the Animal Welfare League QLD as an animal attendant in the cattery. She developed a special fondness for the long-term and elder residents, as well as black felines.
Bec is also passionate about mental health and supporting those with a disability. She has volunteered with a local support group as a mentor and advocate for adults with various disabilities and/or mental health issues who need additional social support and friendship.
